Glossary entry
Kaiseki-ryori. A multi-course meal of many small, simple dishes. Typically, kaiseki-ryori focuses on seasonal ingredients, and tends to be formal and expensive (source).
Related words and phrases
Cha kaiseki. Small meal served with as part of a tea ceremony, usually a soup and three small vegetarian dishes.
Kaiseki-bento. Smaller, less expensive version of kaiseki-ryori, often eaten at lunch.
